TIP OF THE WEEK

Up the Ante on the Standing!

If like many, you find that you spend much of your day seated, whether it is in front of the tv, at a computer or whatever your reason, if you can, try and stand more.

It doesn't sound like much but if you can try and do this a few times extra a day to start with and then build up gradually, you'll soon find that the process of standing becomes easier as you start to strengthen muscles in your buttocks and fronts of your thighs.

How to Stand Properly

1. Shuffle your bottom to the edge of your seat

2.  Feet apart

3.  Keeping your head up at all times, gently rock forward onto the balls of your feet and push yourself up in one fluid motion.  Keeping your heels on the ground is likely to make you fall back into your chair.

It is vitally important that you keep your head up otherwise you will propel your body forward instead of up.

REMEMBER!  UP LIKE A ROCKET, NOT FORWARD LIKE A PLANE!

Once you're up, sit back down and repeat the process as many times as you feel you are able to a maximum of 10 repetitions.

When sitting back down, make sure that this is a controlled action, try not to 'fall' back into your chair as this can cause injury to your spine.

Good Luck!!!
